Add me to the Philistinian group. As a demonstration of furniture-making skill, it's utterly breathtaking. But I find it overblown and ostentatious.

But then I'm unlikely ever to have the right kind of palace in which to house the thing.

Ooh yes - what a lovely bit of oak. Don't you just love the première-partie Boulle marquetry of brass and turtleshell, walnut, gilt bronze, lumachella marble, pine, brass and steel?

I know I do.

I can't help but feel though that originally it would have had a beautiful marquetry top. What a shame it has been replaced with that horrible green marble instead. :roll:
