Central heating boiler fan starting to get noisy, sound like it's rubbing on it's case. Take the boiler apart this morning, the rubber mounts the fan motor sits on are ever so slightly worn, just enough so the fan has enough movement to catch the case when it starts or stops. Can I buy the little rubber mounts that must cost about a ha'penny? No, of course not, that'll be £110 + VAT for a complete new fan assembly Sir :evil: .

A red fibre washer under each mount to pre-load them ever-so-slightly and stop the excess movement and all is fixed for a good few years to come

I have used rubber grommets in the past when needing to mount equipment sensitive to vibrations. Also used rubber widgets & wotnots from various cars/bikes when something a little more substantial was required - Exhaust mounting rubbers & battery tray mounts are very useful.

Lovely job as ever Doug but, erm, what happened to retirement? :lol: That doesn't look like a quick 5 minute easy job as a favour to someone! That's one serious ventilator, I trust the farmer has a telehandler!

Wonderful work Doug and thanks for posting the photos, it's always a pleasure to see such skilled work, even if it does make me a little depressed when I compare it with my own leadworking efforts. All your projects seem to be properly creative works rather than simply functional and are lovely to see. Marvellous!

Nearly one year on from getting a new stove for the drawing room, I am in a position to fire it up and start using the room. Carpet was fitted earlier in the week, so it no longer looks like a building site in there, and the sofa is finally where it belongs. Still have wallpaper to put up along with the picture rail (which needs painting)...

With the fire running all day, the temperature in there is a comfortable 21°C, and the cat is content to sprawl in front of the hearth - If she is happy, so am I

Retirement? It seems a long time ago! I mentioned in the New Grump of the day Topic a while ago that I fell for the "you're the only man to show us " spiel and ended up showing myself how to do the work!! Oh well, that's Ireland but I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Most of the work is standard stuff but can so easily be made a hames of with lack of attention to detail but I suppose that's true of many things. An example is to take care to space clips both correctly and at the right centres on the hip and ridge flashings both aesthetically and to best help resist any wind lift of the free edges.

The welding isn't exactly exhibition standard but not too bad considering shaky hands (and scaffold ) along with wind and weather conditions!! Nowadays it's an achievement (and a lot of puffing) to climb up the scaffold to get to the work... :lol:

She's not wearing my hardhat. Mine is the yellow one...obviously not a fashionable colour. I might consider changing it, I'd hat not to be fashionable... :shock:

Maybe those are some sort of implants that slipped...

Spring is Sprung! The daffodils are out, and here at Feltwell Towers the lawnmower has emerged for the first time this year - AND it started on the second pull!

Every year I think it will be it's last, but with a puff of smoke it starts and rattles away.

It's so nice to be outside in warmth & sunshine. 8)

I had also planned to mow the lawn for the first time this year, but it has been raining here all day. Sticking with the seasonal theme I've been spring cleaning (or dealing with the thick layer of building dust and reminding myself of the colour of the carpet). I tidied the workshop yesterday because I couldn't find any of the tools I needed.

Ahh, belt & braces eh Malcolm? Tidying means you're now guaranteed not to be able to find them (but also that you saw it in that pile over there that you tidied up yesterday) :wink:

It is of course now chucking it down here. I blame Mrs F for forgoing the tumble dryer and putting washing out to dry for the first time this year.
