There are comments about just how friendly and supportive all the contributers are, despite holding quite different views on some topics. Debate there is civil, polite, constructive and laced with plenty of humour. It never descends into the abuse and acrimony which happens on some forums.
It would be good if a few people here took a look at it.

Well, apart from the fact, Piper, that you were right and I was right and the rest of 'em haven't a clue, yes.

But really there are few genuine debates here now, I suspect (ie know) over the years the trolls we have had have put people off (Richard the Rock where are you now?) and I can't really be bothered to waste time I don't have, pointlessly arguing with people I would not cross the road to speak to. Or even to whom I would not cross the road etc. Maybe others have that sort of time to fritter, it takes me away from serious real life stuff.

If people don't like the stuff I post, they don't have to read it. I'll carry on posting news snippets, as long as I can be bothered, as I know a number of folks read them. They don't, as Carol said, bother to cut, paste, and cross examine. I can live without it. Bigger fish to fry. If others wish to waste their time replying, up to them.

Tell you what - we should split the forum in two. That way, we can decide which posts we can be bothered with and which we can't.

Maybe we can have them colour coded.

We can have the part where folks can post information, which some people may find interesting, indeed tell me they do, and we can have the part where folks want to discuss period buildings sensibly and without silliness can post, and the part where people can ask questions about lime and windows and such like, and then there can be the out on a limb bit for those without the sense to know which hole they are in and when to stop digging it deeper.

I'll put a smiley so Graham can know I'm only half joking.

Everyone Nemesis constantly picks on, everyone Nemesis thinks is a tit or an a**e or just me would be good, so if she never posts to my idiotic ramblings of inane nonesense ever again, everyone would be happy.

I can't undrstand why someone who thinks I spout rubbish, spends so much time replying to it, saying that she'll never reply to it again, constantly does.

I'd like to think such a split is not necessary. Surely, all we need is to do is be civil to each other and accept that we won't always agree on things. And if people don't wish to enter a debate, then simply refrain, but don't try to censor others.

In fact, all we need to do is to abide by the forum rules:

Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.

Members are asked to not act as "back seat moderators". If members note an issue which contravenes something in this policy document they are welcome to bring it to the attention of a member of the Moderator Team. Only do this if a moderator team member has not replied within 48 hours. Do not respond to such topics yourself. Members who consistenly "act" as moderators may be warned.

There is clearly a wealth of knowledge within the members of this forum and it should be possible for everyone to learn something - even from people they don't always agree with.

Robust debate, yes, but let's stick with the issues and hold the personal abuse.

Eeh bah gum Carole (I always forget the e sorry!) maybe me an thee can exist in some alternative universe of our own devising.

We will wear our Liberty bodices for warmth an poke a bit of fun at folk and have a glass or several and talk about dry stone walls and pomes and other interesting things.

We will leave them to wave their willies (nice expression, one which Gervase first used on this forum I think) in peace and with an admiring audience of genteel folk who toe the line they manufactured for themselves and who think this is all serious and what is said on here is instantly sent around the world via Reuters.

Hope you appreciate that I've stayed out of the whole SSE dsicussion.

This is what is wrong with the forum....i know that my point of view is different to some and last time I tried to raise my view in a sensible, polite manner...all I got in response was personal abuse, racist emails and foul language....so this time I stayed out of the debate.

I'm perfectly fine with others having a different point of view to me....i have never once resorted to personal abuse or foul language.

FWIW on the original survey by Travelodge, I know for a fact that the busiest Holiday Inn hotels are those at airports...I would assume the same is true of theirs. Anyone who has ever 'eaten' (and I use that description advisedly) at a Travelodge, will know exactly why they are struggling to get customers....uuuurgh

Instead, you tell me to "shut-it" & alledge that I am 'slurring' you.

I did what the forum rules require me to do - I reported all of the abuse to the forum owner.

I don't understand what I have done to warrant this level of direct personal abuse...i've never had this from Biff (and we certainly haven't agreed on everything)
