How was the sole plate accessed without removing the cement render anyway? I'm interested, not sarcastic...

Removal of render on the rest of the building, without due care, could result in some collapse. I would suggest real caution before hacking cement off timber frames and also earth buildings.
I am not saying it should not be done, but only with great care and under the supervision of someone skilled.

hi everyone
Just a few notes to update the situation, the sole plate was installed from the inside by a specialist team they removed all internal gypsum plaster and laths and then replaced the sole plate by jacking the property via numerous acros. They then scarf jointed all the internal vertical timbers into the new sole plate all timber was green oak. The internal lime plaster was then applied to new sawn laths. This is a bit back to front because you would usually do the outside first but could not afford to do both last year so went for the inside cheaper.
We have had a structural engineer around and he has suggested installing corner brackets in the four corners of the property internally even though there has been no movement for the last 40years or so, he also has confirmed that all the cement on the front can be removed without concern of structural failure but I will probably do a quarter and have a look. Estimate for local company 8500-10000, to do it myself 900 in materials, so am debating having a go. The engineer said that he had never heard of a collapse via the removal of cement render, watch this space!!! , apparently timber frame buildings can withstand excessive abuse.
