Cast Iron Bath Supplier?

OK boring housekeeping question - isn't it a b*gger to clean under/around/behind a freestanding bath? Or does anyone considering buying one have such a huge bathroom and an army of cleaners that this isn't a consideration :wink: ?

And another boring question - where do you put all your bits when there's no bath surround?

If you can walk all the way around then it isn't a problem to keep it looking nice. Our house came with one in the master bathroom and I found it less difficult to clean than a tub inset into a surround/ walls. The person employed to hold towels should really be able to multi-task and fetch and carry other bath necessaries, but at a pinch I suppose you could have a second. On their rare days off there is always a chrome bath caddy.

We bought ours from Stiffkey Bathrooms in Norwich www.stiffkeybathrooms.com
It is a 5'6" 1870 French antique which was re-enamelled and painted on the outside to order. It cost a couple of grand but it's a thing of true beauty.
It's massive & heavy empty at around 80Kg - the weight of the water in it when full is much more of a concern than the dead weight of the bath consider that 1 litre of water weighs 1Kg. It also needs a big tank to fill it!

Be ware that cast iron baths can chip easily and fixing those problems is expensive/impossible. We were given a ridiculous set of instructions about drying the bath after use and using detergents on it or bath products in it might damage the finish. While I think that was a behind covering exercise it's worth bearing in mind if this is the main family bath. Ours is in the master ensuite and belongs exclusively to my partner - we used plain steel baths in the other bathrooms - one of which a guest has chipped already .

Cleaning under and around it isn't a problem for me. There is enough room to run the hoover under there to catch dust and a mop/cloth when the mood takes. Admittedly if it were crammed up into the wall on 3 sides it would be harder work but you can walk around 3 sides of ours.
