Cast Iron Bath Supplier?

Hi All,

We are starting to think about the projects we need to complete in 2011 and one of them is the Master Bedroom suite. We would like a double ended cast iron roll top bath.

We have looked at Drummonds and their stuff is wonderful but very expensive. The bath and taps etc coming in at £6000!

Now there seem to be a number of cheaper baths but I have no idea if any of them are any good (tc bathrooms, http://www.castironbath.co.uk/baths.html) etc etc.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of any other suppliers?

I've no experience of these people, but they seem to have a wide range of traditional baths, including a well-priced cast iron jobs:-

Have a poke about their website - if your purse stretches to it, you could have a copper or a leather-trimmed bath!

We have a modern (but in a traditional style) double ended cast iron bath and we are delighted with it. We had exactly the same style in our last house and when we moved here we chose the same again. I think the style is called Buckingham and I think it came from that Victorian Bathroom place. We googled around til we got the best deal. Don't forget to make sure your floor is strong enough to take the weight bearing in mind the weight of the bath, the water and the two people who will be in it.

Sorry, it was a Heritage make in the Buckingham style with the tap holes in the middle.

In our last place we had a double-ended acrylic rolltop "style" bath - came from BathStore.com.

We were pleased with it. If you time it right they have good sales.

Double ended baths are great!! We have one in the main bathroom

Good advice from Vicky. Modern building regs now suggest doubling up the number of joists under any bath, never mind a cast iron one full of water and two people.
We've certainly beefed up ours having inspected the spindly softwood ones that were installed in the 60's, hopefully to avoid the possibility of landing in the kitchen.
We went for an Idealcast bath having been told that the water goes cold quickly in a cast iron bath. No first hand experience of it though, but worth checking out, I think.

I was so impressed with the iso-enamel baths sold by these people in Norwich, lighter, warmer,cheaper, and very good looking (like the good people of Norwich themselves :wink: )

OK boring housekeeping question - isn't it a b*gger to clean under/around/behind a freestanding bath? Or does anyone considering buying one have such a huge bathroom and an army of cleaners that this isn't a consideration :wink: ?

And another boring question - where do you put all your bits when there's no bath surround?

The idea of a bath that doesn't lose heat is ridiculous. If it wasn't for the water going cold, Mrs P would never get out of the bl@@dy bath.

I'm a little embarrassed to confess that my bits won't stretch to the bath surround, so it's never been a particular problem for me.
The ladies amongst us may have different advantages in that respect.
