Thanks for asking, Jose. Two further nights in the slammer and then last night back in the coup, and out she came this morning. No egg but no longer broody. Big row with sister-in-law over the de-brooding technique who said, 'they used to send children up chimneys' implying our fine technique was a little barbaric. But yesterday my chief exec cast music to my ears when he told me that what he does is put the broody in a wicker basket and hand it up in the air for two days. Yesterday I explained this to Big Bird and today, not broody anymore
I think "Joce" often causes confusion and I've been called the Spanish Jose with an accent, Yosh by Belgians and Josie by English - but it's just plain old Joss really in the pronunciation. Or Your Majesty will do equally well.
But Vicky, that's fantastic news. You arent being cruel to your chicken at all, if you google "broody hen dead" you'll get a lot of hits - lots of people lose broodies - it's kinder to de-brood even if it does cause her a bit of suffering.
She may benefit from some extra nutrition now - porridge oats, mixed with water, apple, cat food, a tiny sprinkling of ground- up vitamin tablet, a tiny splash of cod liver oil, will do her the world of good.
