That road that roughly follows virtually the entire route of Hadrian's wall is one of my favourite drives in the whole country.

Mrs P and I did it last February on a frosty, brilliantly sunny day, stopping at the usual Hadrian's Wall hotspots (Vindolanda, etc). It was breathtakingly beautiful, and hardly a soul around.

As far as drives go - the one over Hartside is one of my favs, with brekkies at the caff - not too posh, but very very good!
