A "six foot fence panel" specifies a particular standard size of panel.
A six feet fence means the height has been measured and it happens to be that height. It might be made of 6-foot panels, or it it might made ad hoc from planks sawn on site.

A 6-foot rugger player might actually be 6 feet 1/2 inch when measured. But he's still a six-footer.

And I recall an epsiode of QI stating that a piece of 2 by 3 timber could be a whole range of sizes, not just 2"*3".

Well, there's 'sawn', which should be pretty close to 3x2 and PAR (planed all round), which will be slightly less than 3x2. Not sure about other options though.

Were I using the future tense, atticman, you would of course be correct. However, I am using the emphatic form of the verb 'to want or wish', as in "it is my will...".

Ditto here, Xanthe. This is a late Georgian red-brick cottage with single-skin 9-inch brick walls, plastered (with gypsum!) on the inside, and with no DPC. Yet it's quite a warm building. During the coldest winter weather we tend to keep the woodburner lit all day in the sitting room, but we only run the central heating for 1.5 hour sin the morning, and from 5.30 - 10.00 pm in the evening.

We did take advantage, about 3 years ago, of the Government subsidy to have 30 cm of insulation laid in the loft, and I'm sure this helps.

Penners, depending on what *sin* you are indulging in (and for an hour and a half too :shock: ), I would have thought the need for central heating was negligible :lol:
