I'll probably take the beans to be honest, provided that Jack has completed his risk assessment and provided appropriate PPE.

Yes, a well-established plant. Doing better in the semi-shade than I would have thought.
But in the winter, no concealment for the wall.
If concealment is the aim, gotta be an evergreen. Like ivy.

That's an interesting feature you have there above the flat arch over the window. Is that repeated elsewhere or unique to that window?

That window isn’t ours it’s our neighbour, but we have one with similar. At one time there was a “hanging loo” on that rear elevation. It was demolished with permission in 1977? due to being unsafe. We aren’t sure which sash replaced what would have been a door into it. TBH the back of the house is a bit of a dog’s breakfast.

The Triffid covers a green water butt, and when it was just beginning to grow over I bent the stems around so I’m hoping for a slightly baskety effect once the leaves fall. We have a big ivy on the end wall, so I wanted to keep the VC as it’s a bit different. It has thrown up a runner on the other side of a paved area, which gets even less sunlight, and that’s zipping along smartly too. As I managed to kill the two lovely plants I put in urns by the front door and results in the garden have been variable at best I have decided my horticultural strategy is that anything not too weedy which arrives and thrives is allowed to stay!

Thanks for the photo sharing tips, will give that a try another time.

The ridge is sagged 4" over the 19' length. I sagged it with a jigsaw.
At the eaves, each rafter is set down a little further as one one works towards the centre, so the eaves are sagged as well.
I wanted it to look old....
