If you want to get rid of the critters, experience suggests that poison is not the best method. The previous owners of our house had presumably done this, because when the plasterboard ceiling in the kitchen came down, so did a rat and mouse - or what was left after a few years of mouldering. If you have mice, why not buy a large piece of cheese - and then drop it in your neighbour's garden.

With us it is normally rooks on the roof.

But how do you tell the difference between rooks and crows?

Here in Suffolk, there's an infallible method:-

"If yew c'n see jus' one rook - thass a crow.
If thass a whole gang o' crows - they's rooks."

We tried raisins set in traps. very successfully I might add.. better than the lazy moggie we have in residence here.

Mice do not like cheese, hence the raisins!

If the Bas****s are keeping you awake and you can't rest, get your own back. Wire up a getto blaster into the loft and play some loud "kestrel" music.

It may scare the s**t out of them and p**s off .

If you are really lucky your neighbours may follow them.

That's the second time in as many days I've heard that phrase. I'd never heard it before Saturday then it was on Radio 4's The Rook And Me

Your neighbours may also be very nice, nevertheless and just in case, if they found alternative accomodation and decided to follow the vermin or whatever is in the loft ,to alternative permanent residence, that would guarantee your absolute peace and quiet. :wink:

In today's Telegraph, news that Edible Dormice are due to begin hibernating.
Apparently these non-native creatures (introduced by one of the Rosthchilds) tend to inhabit lofts and dine off electric wiring.

Well it really is a coincidence, because I didn't hear the broadcast (which is strange in itself, as Mrs P normally tends to have Radio 4 on 18 hours a day!)

Sorry Penners I didn't mean to imply you were a plagerist. But you did miss a treat. He was talking about eating rooks, which I don't find too appetising though.

Around here we also have "hoodies". Nothing to do with "yoof" culture but about as popular!

We had a few mice at work once. We set a few traps but they just kept on pinching the bait and not setting off the trap. In the end we used chewing gum, they bite onto it and when they try to pull away - snap! They're gone now.
