Potmolen paints advertise a linseed oil paint in their ad in SPAB Cornerstone?

The Paint & Paper price list they gave me has "Tradition Linoljefärg Linseed oil paint" at £25 a litre (vs. £17 a litre for Oljefärg)

That sounds as though it might be the real McCoy. The price is what one should expect - closer to Allback/Holkhams.

I think 'Linoljefärg' is just Swedish for 'linseed oil paint', not a brand name.

Remember that real linseed oil tends to form a thinner paint film than alkyd resin so a litre goes further, perhaps almost twice as far. When applying it you should try to get as thin a coat as possible.

If you want Holkham and need it urgently, try asking Biff if he has a stock in! He might have a tin or two and it goes a long way...

No, sorry but Green Shop sell Holkhams paint (and last time I checked their postage rate was a tad less!).

Craig - I'm considering using Aglaia paint for exterior timber. The Holkham linseed takes too long to dry. I can just about cope with it for windows, but not the front door.

I believe they have a 'natural' exterior oil paint for wood and metal.

Is there a particular product that you can recommend in the range?

Craig have no doubt your painting is divine dahling, :wink: it's just the poor little insects who were abused may give some pause for thought, although I haven't a clue what shellac soap is.

I wonder if anyone has tried the Potmolen variety? It's not a widely known company (Warminster) which sells very trad paints. Just curious to know what's in that. I note that they are Earthborn stockists so it may be just they sell stuff made by others, but the linseed paint is called Clarina. Unfortunately they don't seem to have a website.

Beeck, who produce Aglaia, make a great range of excellent paints. One of the English suppliers is Womersleys. Useful website, phone them for advice, go on their courses. A firm that is certainly part of the solution.
