Minkeycat said:Thank you. What food for thought. Having studied some of the beams, we think it's a stain as we can still see wood grain in places and there's no sheen on them at all. We like the the limewashing option as it'll brighten the room up especially combined with some clever lighting. Has anyone tried Cassein Distemper to lighten beams? This is new to me so I'm intrigued to hear about results.
I'm quite pleased to have been put off any kind of blasting option.
Still open to suggestions or examples!
Thank you
Why not try washing it off with a detergent (Persil or similar) or a solution of sugar soap.
Try it first on a hidden part of a beam and see if it lifts off some of the stain.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
