Beam stripping/sandblasting question for stained beams

Thank you. What food for thought. Having studied some of the beams, we think it's a stain as we can still see wood grain in places and there's no sheen on them at all. We like the the limewashing option as it'll brighten the room up especially combined with some clever lighting. Has anyone tried Cassein Distemper to lighten beams? This is new to me so I'm intrigued to hear about results.

I'm quite pleased to have been put off any kind of blasting option.

Still open to suggestions or examples!

Why not try washing it off with a detergent (Persil or similar) or a solution of sugar soap.
Try it first on a hidden part of a beam and see if it lifts off some of the stain.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I washed our ceiling joists and beams with a scrubbing brush and plain water. I had to change the water almost every other joist. Filthy job - you can use rubber gloves but the mess runs down your arm and next time you go to dunk the brush in the bucket, the mess runs back inside your glove. The floor either gets sopping wet or you put plastic down and find yourself standing in a minor lake. BUT it did noticeably lighten the beams even where there had been paint.

I've just finished cleaning a few bits with PeelAway 7. It involved washing beams after. NEVER, EVER, Again.

Next time, soda/dry ice blast is the route forward for sure.
