As you can see, the gap that the infill was driven into has broadened slightly. First picture gives the context, the second gives the close up.

I just wanted to say thanks for everyones advice with the bathroom floor. In the end i used sawdust from the floorboards, mixed with boiled linseed oil and rosin (same as i'd used for burnt sand mastic), it was a bit messy but made a workable paste that i could force in between the boards and wipe clean. I left this for a few days to harden up then varnished on top. It's been 2 months now and looks the same as when i first did it so hopefully it's done the trick! ...time will tell i guess, but happy with the result.

I think there are products available now that you can use to fills gaps in floorboards, like Lecol.

Just out of interest did you stain your boards? I like the dark colour.

I used Lecol in 2004. Would recommend. Mixed with saw dust.

Edit: We left in 2013, and still looked fine. Only bit that cracked was a short bit that was wider than the rest. Think it was over 5mm.

I used Lecol 7500 mixed with saw dust which was what to governor recommended
VERY quick drying and is still holding up well albeit only 18 months on.

I am sanding an upstairs floor, as part of it I am going to fill the floorboard gaps. I have seen LECOL 7500 recommended which you mix with the sanded sawdust to form a paste. However, I will have to hire the sander and as I have to sand again after filling running out of filler mid job will...

Everything will fall out in a bathroom, especially if there is a shower in there.

2mm is very narrow, you can use reclaimed pine slivers but these will be hard to hammer in with such small gaps, if you try, use D4 PVA.

Only other option is Bona gap master, Wenge colour looks best, looks a bit plasticky, it is an acrylic sealant, but it is designed to work with water based lacquers and is very flexible.

It's a tricky one. I used to tell people to lift and budge up but in reality that's an insane idea unless the floor is already loose or has to come up for other reasons.

I would be tempted to use a hardwax oil in batbrooms, despite its poor water resistance and lack of slip resistance, as at least it won't peel.

In 37 years I have only ever seen one of my floors that peeled, that was a water based finish with filled gaps, in a small toilet, although I do not know how accurate aimers the boys of the house were...
