Bad taste or TV induced?

I EMailed the Estate Agent about this house and asked why it was listed.

Get your hankies out as it will make you cry - either that or spitting mad.

Basically - despair.

The answer is -

"The property had listed building consent regarding the double glazing hence the Georgian bars to the front.

please note that this property has now been sold and all viewings are suspended."

Driving through the Cambridge area as a passenger yesterday I was saddened by the sight of so many historic buildings blighted by plastic windows.
There is something quite ridiculous about a half-timbered building sporting brilliant white plastic fittings.
Those that live in them have no taste is the thought in my mind.

I agree, although I have to say that some CO's / Local authorities must share the blame. In our last house, (1760's) two of the 18 windows had been replaced with Critall windows in the 60/70's. (without any consents)

We applied for LBC to replace with hand-made timber windows - matching the profiles of the existing windows. It was refused.

I have heard anecdotal stories of people being refused permission to replace uPVC windows with timber - does anyone have any examples?

If your intended replacements were accurate copies of the windows in place at time of listing, would it not be correct to say you needed no permission? That might be why permissoin was not granted.
