That's an amazing creation, but a bit satanic-looking really, and I'm not sure about shell work indoors. It's meant to be suggestive of nymphs, sprites and other mythological goings on, and the Georgians liked their grotto-follies as private places to get up to mischief. And in hot weather provide shady respite.

I think I want an octagonal building, that's open at the front for the view, with lots of ferns and mossy rocks around it.

Here's another, weel some more, pictures I've found of the grotto. It's a fantastic piece of very high quality work made entirely from shells, the walls and ceilings, and is part of a swimming pool built as a Georgian style orangery which in turn is built as and addition to a newly built replica of a ruined abbey. A top quality job that I was delighted to be involved in...

Can't say Gareth but it could have been someone from Barbados way. I don't really want to disclose where the property is but the whole project was a tour de force...
I was so lucky to get to work on projects like this.

Fabulous pictures of the grotto, I'm sure Joce will eventually create something magical too. I would caution against collecting the shells leftover from a lovely seafood lunch unless you are prepared to make an effort disinfecting them and have means to seal them for transport. They may look empty, they may have been boiled in broth for what seems like an eternity, and you may be completely convinced that there is nothing but empty shell....... but trust me they will smell bad, very very bad and need to be double or triple bagged ! Ones collected from a beach have had the advantage of time spent soaking in salt water and being scoured by sand, dried by the sun etc, things that were just lunch need special treatment. I found out the hard way, as did the people staying at the same hotel as me when I decided to throw my treasures away in the bin by the elevators :shock:
