Pink could be dismissed as a simple matter of taste, but combined with blue it starts to sound a bit eccentric, which is further reinforced by the bright orange shower tray (where on earth would you find one of those?!).

But peep holes in the wall seems like an altogether more sinister level of peculiarity :shock:

From the gasman who connected the cooker 'I love exposed beams. We had them in our house but they were all crooked, so we took them out and put straight ones in".
From the neighbour, who popped round the day after we had discoved a Georgian shelved alcove behind the hardboard in the kitchen "You need to get that out, cluttering your kitchen". I mentioned the listed building status, and he pointed out the the CO probably didn't know it existed, so we'd be alright if we acted quickly.
I've lost count of the number of people who've asked when we're getting the windows replaced.
We've also had several people asking about the secret tunnel under the road to the church (still a secret to us).
Best of all, from a lady a couple of weeks ago "If you want any help in the garden, let me know. No charge or anything. Just let me know what you want done"

My boss keeps asking me if there would be any way we could persuade the council to let us knock the house down and build a nice new timber framed one in it's place because that way we'd be warm :roll:

At Dent station, highest in England, the ststion master's house was built with two sets of sash windows - one inside the other - six inches apart, in order to try to conserve heat.

In winter he would spray the exterior with water so it froze, as a layer of insulation...

What I find surprising is the lack of interest some people show. Like the number of people who walked past completely ignoring the present Mr M digging a substantial hole in the graveyard (restoring the French drain on our gable end). Especially as he was muttering filthy imprecations under his breath and looking frankly rather disreputable, as he does since we moved to the countryside (think Captain Haddock wearing a filthy old Barbour, trousers held up with baling twine etc.)

Interesting approach to insulation. Wouldn't the heat from the fire melt the ice? Our rooms can get up to 15 degrees sometimes in the winter from just one fairly small open coal fire....it's a cause for celebration when that happens! :lol:

The funny thing about Dent Station is that it is about four miles away from Dent.

Ditto Gatehouse of Fleet in Galloway. Apparently, when it was built, the Senior (local name for Laird) didn't like the idea of noisy trains passing through the village.

So the station was located several miles outside the village. Fine if you were rich enough to have a pony and trap, but if you had to ride Shanks's....
