Am I right in thinking that DJH is the first one here to have donkeys? I know we have had cats and dogs aplenty, some chickens, ornamental fowl, pigs, rented sheep and horses, even a Zebra!

Ok, I need an animal agony aunt. We have a rat behind the Aga. Definately. Kitten brought it in at lunch time today. It's down the tinest of gaps but the Aga is inside a chimney breast with about a 5 cm gap each side so it's gone down the side and round the corner. It must be dreadfully hot but it wont come out. I've tried removing cats, opening back door wide, giving a clear line of sight from Aga to back door and putting a piece of parmesan down the side of the Aga, and going to an hour's walk to give it peace and quiet to come out. But it's still there.
Any bright ideas?
It's going to smell something dreadful if it dies down there.

Oh no, that's not good! Can you see it? If not, are you absolutely sure its still there? It will be traumatised from the kitten attack and not likely to come out until it is good and ready (which may sadly mean, medium rare!)

Thank you for the advice. It's definitely still there. Every now and then it pokes its nose out.
Fingers crossed it comes out in the night and the cats finish it off.

Ok, here we go with donkeys. I've got loads of pictures I'm afraid...

Here's our youngest, Whiskey about ten minutes after he was born. It's most unusual for mares to foal in the day and where people can see. The mother is called Molly and this is her third son with us. Toffee the eldest, Jet the second and of course Whiskey. We know for a fact she's had six foals and she's old enough to have had twelve or even more. She's a good mum though but she's very wary of men especially the farrier but she's fine with children and women. We won't breed from her any more now because we couldn't bear to give them away.

They're beautiful. Quick plug for the Donkey Sanctuary which is just down the road from me. I'm sure there is no truth to the story my husband circulates that they operate a salami factory from there :lol:

King Rat was dead on kitchen floor this morning. Tranquility is restored.

Vicky, I'm not far from a donkey sanctuary either but I suppose I should 'fess up' and say that I live in Ireland. I hope this doesn't mean I won't be allowed on here any more.

I don't think it's an issue that you're in Ireland, we've got members all over the place. And the donkeys are really lovely, can you send one or two over? I'vegot three acres to fill! (been a bit slow filling due to various problems - Sam's got 20 sheep in there just now but they'll be slaughtered in Jan - I definitely want pets)

Not seriously expecting me to supply me; I need to find a good local breeder
