Approach to Conservation Officer

I'm an architect, originally from that part of the world, but now working in East Anglia as a conservation officer.
I've a feeling an ex-colleague of mine, Rachael, may now be your CO (or she's possibly in an adjoining district).
The issue with the painting may be as much to do with its technical performance, breahtability and so on, as to do with the colour schemes. Though looking at photos of the interior available elsewhere it's clear the previous owner was allowed to get away with a lot of speculative reinstatement of very ornate plasterwork and so on.

Is it just me?, I get the feeling that this building would cost into the millions to reinstate it to it's former glory.

From the looks of Gareth's picture the former owner has probably already spent millions!!!

We haven't got millions but enough to look after it to keep it for the next few generations to enjoy. Joce is right. If we went mad and panelled the rooms and replaced all the damaged stone etc, it would cost a lot but then the charm of the place would be gone. We have some antique pieces and modern classic and hope to mix it all together to a good effect within the house. It won't be modern and it won't be antique but hopefully the best of both!

The main objective is to keep the building weatherproof, some comfortable part of the building to live in with " home comforts, repairs or further restoration as and when funds allow. I am sure it is a lovely project which should bring lot of satisfaction and a pleasure to live with.
