Are children still allowed to play conkers or has 'elf n safety decreed that it's too hazardous?

It's a myth - I think one story is that a headmaster in Scotland took some photos showing children playing conkers while wearing goggles. He intended this to illustrate how silly the H&S culture had become, but the media used the photos and added their own interpretation so it rather backfired on him.

No myth - Hall Grove School in 1998 (while I was a pupil there) banned conkers. Too hazardous, and left too much of a mess around the school...

Ohh dear me Keith.

If you read back on my original post, you'll see that I'm not decrying the claims for your products, merely advising that they be checked as your website was a bit light on detail. If you've got a fantastic product, that does all it claims to do, then clearly you'll be proud of that and able to demonstrate that to one and all - including me - if we were to ask. You may have missed the later post:-

Yes, I did take the mickey out of one of your customers for his absurdly sexist product review, "They are so simple, my wife can fit them", which you seem to have taken very personally. I was not discussing it with you, as you state. A comment such as that posted up on a publically available website will be open to comment and potentially ridicule. I could have criticised you for choosing to use it to endorse your products, but you will note that I did not, and I am not doing so now.

Having said all this, if I have upset you, then I apologise for it was not my intention.

Re: that customer quote in the SupaSash Testimonials ... "So easy my wife can fit them". That's not sexist. As far as I know, his wife, like mine, is a terrific cook, but is not great at joinery. It would only be sexist if he had implied that ALL women were technically lacking. Maybe my understanding of language and grammar comes from an old-fashioned Grammar School education. Perhaps that's also why my ideas on window construction and double-glazing are rather different to others.

Mike Bryant refutes the "Sid the Sexist" accusation...
"Yes this is why I said my wife can do it. Most women hate going up ladders and we installed all the windows without the use of a ladder at all !! Being able to remove the units meant we could even redo the external stonework with lime mortar through the open frame, then simply temporarily put the units back in overnight before tidying up the lime a few days later once it had dried. Same with restaining them several years later. I don't think we've ever touched them whilst up a ladder.

I still say the whole concept is so superior I can't understand why everyone hasn't adopted it ... including B&Q (or Jewsons or someone else) by buying you out."

Keith, I'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to pop up every few months and drag over old ground, but I really am not interested in a drawn-out public argument with you, or a private one for that matter. A few years ago this forum was regularly subjected to public disputes which got very wearing for all users, I for one have no wish to return to that.

I've given you an apology if I had offended you, that should be sufficient to put the matter to rest. If you think it isn't then feel free to complain to the forum administrators. As far as I am concerned the matter is now permanently closed.
