In India many households buy grain rather than flour becasue they dont trust the flour suppliers not to adulterate their product. When the cook/housewife wants to make rotis they or their servant goes down to the market where there is a man with a portable hand operated mill. He is observed carefully while he grinds the grain (to ensure he doesnt filtch any) then paid a very modest sum for his troubles.

This may well be where we are heading.

The risk is that our nanny state will see this as a fiendish loophole and:
a. ban the act of milling grain at home

Anyway, what about fluoridation of drinking water? I don't like the idea of mass medication either but my son has only got one filling whereas I have a mouth full of them - and, before you ask, he was terrible at cleaning his teeth regularly until girls arrived on the scene (why do they always make us chaps clean up our act?).

you know ive often seen that people who brush twice a day end up with twice as many fillings as people who dont.
i could be wrong here but its just that throughout my life , the people ive known with bad teeth are the people who insist on brushing them a lot and go to the dentist regularly to have them polished etc etc.

I hate marmite. Wholegrains are a good source of folic acid anyway - it's "Mother's Shame" cheap white supermarket bread that ought to be reinforced with lots of extra stuff, thereby reaching the "target market", not the pjncy handcrafted stuff the likes of us eat, which is already better for you and tends (to make a sweeping generalisation) to be part of a better-considered overall diet too. It's ages since I last had a turkey twizzler.

Do I detect a marmite rift developing? I'm not fanatical about it but there's always a jar in the cupboard and every now again a subtle craving means it finds its way onto my breakfast toast in place of the more usual lime marmalade.
