Another lightbulb thread

We have 6x 7W GU10s in the bathroom together with a single halogen 35W which is part of the extractor fan so can compare.

Once warmed up, I would say that the CFLs are almost but not quite as bright at the halogen though the beam shape is different so it is difficult to compare exactly. They do take a long time to get to full brightness and I wouldn't like them in the kitchen for example. In the bathroom though it is an advantage when you visit half asleep during the night.

I've just started replacing my GU10s with LEDs and I've been pleasantly surprised - not quite as bright as the GU10, but still lighting the kitchen fine. I got mine from Clas Ohlson. The downside is that they are expensive. Hopefully the savings will mount up though...

What brand LED's are they Tim? Clas Ohlson only have 5 stores in the UK at present!

They are, by the way, by far and away the nicest retailer I've ever had to supply to - organised, friendly, helpful, understanding etc etc, even if the language is sometimes a slight problem (they're based in Sweden). I wish the UK retailers were even half as good to deal with! Clas Ohlson have big plans for the UK, and I for one hope they succeed.

Own brand, if they have them? I went for the 'warm white' rather than cool white - I've not replaced all of the bulbs so the jury is still out, but so far, I'm pleasantly surprised - was expecting a harsh light/it to be quite dark, but like I say, although not as dazzling as the halogens, pretty good. There were more expensive bulbs, which I think would give out more light, but I couldn't run to £15 a bulb...

Clas Ohlson is great, it's like a cross between Ikea and Wilko's, in a good way.
