Another Flood!

Commiserations, Malcolm. I'm glad you're taking a philosophical view of things, it can't be easy to suffer such a setback.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm really pleased about it. The downstairs room was full of stuff and I hadn't figured out where to put it when I started messing around with that room.

The guy that helped me clean up on Saturday has worked on the house before and is very good with conservation and likes to do things properly. He is not happy in his current work and we talked about him coming here full time to get the house done. I don't have any time, but had an enormous pay rise which can fund someone by itself, and now I have a whole side of the house cleared out ready to work on. I'm much more motivated now than I have been this year.

Another minor advantage of a cold tank is that when the water is cut off, as has happened twice here for more than a day, one can still flush the loo.

Quite! And make a cup of tea.

A plumber, who came to install a new gas boiler for us, told me that he'd advise against converting to a fully pressurised system as he'd seen them blow old fittings off pipes if said fittings just happened to be hanging on by the skin of their teeth. I don't know how true this is, but it reinforced my prejudice in favour of unpressurised systems.
