Drifting off topic...but does anyone have an answer to how to distract a badger from digging up the veg plot? Came out this morning to find the lettuces and spinach trashed and will put some chicken wire over the remainder in the short term but should I try putting out food elsewhere or is this just going to encourage the beast? Obviously the MdB solution is not an option in this case!

It will just encourage them - and it is likely to be them with a good food source.

Have you put bonemeal in there? Our dogs dig plants up if I put bonemeal under them.

No bonemeal, but lots of good compost, so I think the badger is after the worms.

but it's ok, I think this one has run its course. There's a few suggestions there and I may well do a Time Team and open up a trench across the most promising soggy bit
