That looks a very interesting notebook, Piper. The carriage on paint is less from http://greenshop.co.uk/ . They sell Holkhams Paints. I've only used shellac when doing traditional putty glazing. I guess it's more expensive than whisky because instead of harvesting the barley with a combine you need to catch each beetle and pull it's wings off. Hmm, maybe shellac isn't such a great idea.

Thanks for that Biff, I'll definitely investigate greenshop - meanwhile I think I'd better carry on with painting the rebates with shellac - fortunately there's over half a bottle left, and the whisky can be kept for reward or consolation when the job is done. There's a lot more exciting stuff involved in malt whisky making than just harvesting barley of course. You can see it live at the website of my favourite distillery. (another little off-topic distraction, folks - to go with the strawberry jam on another thread, though whether malt whisky goes with strawberry jam is quite another matter.)

But some of the Islay distilleries are in trouble at the moment apparently - Bruichladdich in particular, and also my fav, Ardbeg (although not so badly hit) amongst them as there is a water shortage.

Just supposing... I had installed a double glazed unit with wooden beads, but also a good layer of linseed putty.... what might I expect? A blown unit for certain? or just a higher chance?...

I installed some just like that 21 years ago, before I knew better. They are still fine

We installed a roof light like that, two panes. In a year, one had failed. The other is OK so far.
