I have just bought a section of oak tree about 8’ long and 17” diameter which I have had sawn into 1” thick planks. I have now stacked it in a shed using 4 lengths of ¾” softwood battens across the planks to separate each layer, but I’m now wondering if this is enough support to stop the planks sagging between the battens? Also, is it OK to use softwood for the battens or will this mark the oak? Has anyone any experience of air drying oak who could advise me please?
Thank you.
