Advice on re-building bays on c1880 semi

In an ideal world, of course not. It's heartbreaking, but it happens. I'm thinking about the scenario when a building is already being demolished and the lorries are there waiting to cart the debris away to be pulverished.

Salvage. It's not saving our heritage to demolish period buildings. Some seem to think it OK as long as the bits are salvaged, but it should eb a lst resort.

No, I agree. But that's sidestepping the dilemma that I described above.

Not one I can resolve really. I'm a bit busy also trying to stop some demolitions in Embra also...

Whether you buy the a bay as a kit or not is not going to stop a building being demolished. But if the style is right it could save a lot of time and effort in trying to build one from new.

The probability of finding exactly the right size, stone and detail for a half a semi is pretty remote...

The slates to replace those that had delaminated came from salvage, of another Lincolnshire building. It would have been cheaper to make that end of the roof of the same material as the nearby stable, but the CO declined the suggestion we used asbestos sheeting on the house, so matching slates it was.
