Used to be Public conveniences at that location. Gone 4 years signs still up directing people there, that is many cross legged people.

Address and map databases don't seem to be very well coordinated. We regularly get phone calls from frustrated delivery drivers saying they're in the village but can't find us. This is because our lane is on some maps but not others. If their GPS system doesn't have the right map it directs the driver to the nearest point, even though access from that point is only via a footpath and actually requires a half-mile drive to the house. One memorable conversation had the driver completely losing his rag and shouting at me down the phone that the house wasn't where it should have been. I merely pointed out that I was fairly sure the house hadn't moved in the last 450 years so it might possibly be his GPS system at fault.

We have same problem, gps will take you to the nearest point to our house, nearly two miles driving, but only a few hundred yards across a stream over a 2.5m tall metal railing and then cross the field.

That'll be what "cross" means in the middle of market Square, then...

Have just returned from some time in Ethiopia. In Addis, there are few street names (and in any case the roads were renamed recently after they kicked out the Derg!). People seem to navigate solely by landmarks - is a wonderful boon for the taxi drivers as most journeys are quite an odyssey.

We live in the middle of nowhere, but the postcode sector is exactly centred on the end of our bridlepath drive. Takes some persuading of most delivery drivers to just use the postcode n their SatNav and no other directions.

We just don't tell them it is a 127-point turn at the other end once they get in to our yard :twisted:

Most of them leave swearing never to come again.

Yes very pleasing, a victory much needed.

I did wonder how that would leave the listing of the building if the council changed the address to another different from the one appearing on the listing.

Has anyone encountered this situation?

It seems a bizarre scenario to me. I agree the building has been usurped by modern development and now figures at the bottom of a road which historically was a building for the last few hundred years and blocked more so from the Market Place by the planting of a concrete monstrosity in 1970.
