I've just learned that yesterday my husband was cold-called by a firm with information about a government-funded scrappage scheme.
He told them that we live in a listed building in a conservation area, and that the only thing he could think of that might be improved was our draughty sash windows, and that the conservation officer would insist on replacements identical to the originals.
The caller seemed to understand this, and said "hardwood, of course".
The upshot of this was that someone will come round tomorrow morning to have a look at the windows.
I expect that everyone will share my reaction which amounted to "Over my dead body" and "All they need is efficient draught-proofing"
I've just googled Scrappage Scheme and found only two categories - cars and boilers.
I'd be most grateful for any comments, especially from our resident COs.
