Sorry to hear the CH is now dead. Can it be fixed as a temp measure?

Karen, there are many potential sources of damp with old houses, and houses generally. Whats needed is to work thru the possibilities to see what the cause is. Then and only then will it get fixed.

I think the temp measure will have to be a new boiler insert, keeping the casing! Wom't be cheap, easy or quick I'm sure! At least today we now have the system drained and isolated, water supply returned and the immersion heater going, but the house gets cold, even with the big cast iron stove belting out.

Ah well. Me and my big mouth! I tempted fate, obviously. At least was at home when we noticed the leak...

We do need a FAQs re damp, lime etc - it's getting time to put it all together - then getting some consensus...

Thank you all for your kind words and help and thank you Ian for the info re picture hosting. I've just been told today that the house has been sold due to a higher offer!! Luckily I hadn't instructed the structural survey that i was going to do this week!! Oh well....onwards...gutted though

Onwards and upwards though - I am a great believer in good things coming to those who wait! Something else will come along, trust me!

Tell the vendors if the deal falls through you are still interested...

Yep! We think Ours has gone 't*ts up'.
And talking to the CO earlier. He did not seem to have a problem with adding an extension on.. (subject to what ever we sketched/proposed).....
Shame really.....
We are disappointed.....
But, there ya go.....
Never mind.If it's not ment to be....

It took us two years to get this place ... it's a long story. We camp out in a ruin really, but we would have it no other way!

I dont know if you will remember me, but i was pipped at the post for a lovely property that you all very kindly gave me advice on the damp problem that it had.
Well, I didnt get that one, but i did get one in the same row and have now been in it for 4 weeks. So it was worth the wait, i now have my victorian semi backing onto the canal. I have also just posted a request for advice on my lovely victorian tiled floor.
