Hi Everyone
Just joined here and just exchanged contracts on a victorian semi by the sea, on a steep hill where one side of the whole ground floor is buried by our neighbour's garden. The kitchen has been tanked but (unsurprisingly) it is still very moist in there.
I'm just reading Peter Ward's book the Warm Dry House (recommended by a roofing contractor) and I am very much sold on the idea of making the property more breathable. In particular I'm wondering what practical alternatives to tanking there might be that will allow the property to breathe (and maybe dry out) where it is currently buried underground. Here are some pictures to show what I'm dealing with. There is a large retaining wall that currently has drainage holes in it. I'm wondering about some sort of structure to separate the neighbour's garden (and all the moisture in it), from our wall and something to improve drainage of the ground in her garden so it doesn't build up to become a problem for us.
Thanks for any ideas!
Paul
