Penners said:That's great! I can't wait for an excuse to go and gawp at the interior. The exterior has long been one of my favourite buildings.
I love all the fanciful bits of decor on the outside too. Such a co-incidence that the BBC report mentions gargoyles, I was thinking about them just a few days ago. Last weekend I bought a pair* of old ceramic Chinese "lucky animals", after I got all the years of grime off them and they were dry I was deciding how they should be displayed. The obvious choice would have been with another Chinese piece, and I had several Quan-yin ( Goddess of Mercy ) statues which I considered. But then they sort of said "gargoyle" to me and I decided they might like to guard my Madonna ( not the conical bra one ) for a while. Hope they eventually want to live on a mantlepiece!
* I'm not totally sure they are a true pair, even though one is a left and one a right they are not the identical sort of animal. I was offered the "one male one female" explanation but wasn't totally convinced, although they had obviously been in the same place for a long time.
