Good timing, you dont need a fridge just now.

Any refrigeration engineer should be able to get it going again. One that recons and sells used kit would probably be cheapest. If you get it looked at and they encounter problems they cant fix, let us know.

What it costs depends on the problem, it might be quite cheap, might not.

At least it's reversible, I mean as long as they were using the clear stuff so they hit the mortar beds and not the stone. But I'm sure they were.

I quite like my blue tanking plastic on my extension. Blue so we can see where it is. And if it needs repair. Unfortunately I have never seen basement plastic. It's probably clear

No - the CO's stance on this one - to keep the original and possibly rare and important roof structure - along with the new, which will maintain the building in use - is very sound conservation.

The roof structure may be part of why the building is listed.

It's so much about individual buildings and finely balanced judgement really.

Really an honest modern solution wouldn't harm the building. Attempting to rebuild the failed parts just because some say its more in keeping. Would it be in keeping for the whole structure to be weakened and rot away. No. Even covering it all in a huge glass dome is better that trying to fix from cut off rotten joists and rafters. The integrity of the roof would be gone. Do it another way

I've long been a proponent of the 'infinite number of parallel universes' proposition. What first captured my imagination about the idea was the thought that, in one of those universes, I would already have finished the project I was just about to start.

Sadly, and despite a long career trying, I have not found such an 'immediate' route between the start and finish - yet!

Any pointers CABS13?
