I've signed up. I think I'm better than average when it comes to environmental issues but there's always lots of room for improvement! The fact that I'll be working part-time for the next year will have an impact - we won't be buying much unless it's essential, there'll be minimal holidays etc (I haven't flown for 2 years anyway), no wasted food, and I'll barely be using my car. Allotments are like golddust round here but I'm just negotiating with someone about using half their garden for growing veg, etc (in return for mowing their lawn!). We're also trying to only use charity, second-hand shops, ebay, Freecycle when we need stuff other than food obviously and since we're decorating the house, we need to buy paint but it comes from an independent shop 5 mins walk away. I try to use the more environmentally-friendly paint and I'm about to try NaturePaint which hopefully lives up to its claims! I like the idea of putting leftover paint on the compost rather than having it cluttering up the cellar...

I like the red rubber bands; I use them every day. There's no packet in my kitchen without one- to stop the damn earwigs getting in. Earwig plague this summer - but Biff you'll be pleased with me, I collect them all up now and feed them to the hens!

I'd have thought that rubber bands would have a deleterious effect on their sweet little insides.

And, if I may incur the wrath of Penners one more time by assuming the support of others, its sort of what the vast majority feel. I say "feel" advisedly in the sense that its not only thought that matters in this debate.

Quite right Penners. Standards need to be maintained. But hang on. I don't want to be pedantic but to misuse an apostrophe, don't you have to use it first? Now, as you know, I am not one to second guess the minds of others, but surely what you meant to say was that your wrath was incurred by their omission? Which actually, may be correct, because you tell me to "fear not" in this instance. Or were you just tricking me you sly old devil?

I shall try and be more careful with my grammar in future. It's so easy to wrongly write and I quite understand that it is something up with which you will not put.
