We have no provision for rainwater at the moment and as a result, the water comes out of the spouts and hits the building and we have problems with penetrating damp at the points under the spouts. I have rung several rain pipe fabricators and they couldn't assist with what we need. We need to channel the water from the spout into a downpipe. I rang the CO today.I spoke with a lovely lady who understood why its important to get the water off the building as its damaging the stone. I mooted the possibility of cast iron look downpipes for two reasons. Firstly, we are concerned about the weight of a cast iron pipe and the fixings required. They would need to be substantial fixings that may cause damage to the stone. Secondly, metal theft is rife in this area and we would be vulnerable to theft as we have an open aspect with fields at the rear but not far from a road. We are not living in the property so can't keep an eye out at night. Cast iron look can be very effective and with the materiel being lighter, we feel the risk of damage is much less and of course the metal thieves will leave us alone once they find there is nothing to be had. The CO has asked me to email information.
