I have a period mid terraced house built 1834 and I am in the throes of selling it. The would be purchasers have had a full structural survey carried out. The surveyor told me after a damp meter reading that I have damp throughout the ground floor walls. Except for between the two chimney breasts there is no evidence of damp and during the four years I have lived here have had no problem. The previous owner who lived here 21 years also had no problem except for the area between the chimney breasts which he had damp proofed. The surveyor is recommending that a damp proof course should be carried out at a cost of £4-5000. What should my course of action be when I speak to the purchasers?
