Depends on the surface you're laying on to.robgil said:how do you work out how much a coat is?
OddJob said:If you're using it for haired plaster you can store it with the hair in but I'd use it inside a month-six weeks as the hair rots away in the wet pug,I prefer to mix hair in on the day of use with a larry or in a mixer but ready haired does save a lot of time.
OddJob said:I mostly buy mine ready mixed in 25k bags and for a recent 10m2 three coat job on brick it was estimated at 10 bags haired first coat,6 bags haired second coat,.......................
I over ordered once by nearly double
Thankfully it was used on the same job the following spring.

Not quite sure how that can be seen as an oops!skier-hughes said:OddJob said:If you're using it for haired plaster you can store it with the hair in but I'd use it inside a month-six weeks as the hair rots away in the wet pug,I prefer to mix hair in on the day of use with a larry or in a mixer but ready haired does save a lot of time.

Nope, the overordered plaster was unhaired, even if it was haired all you have to do is add more hair, and the plaster itself was even better for having matured in the bag.skier-hughes said:Wouldn't it be an ooops if the reputation was squandered on using aged ready mixed plaster that had gone off, or an Oooops for having to do the same job again the next spring, when perhaps it should have been done right first time?
I've no idea if the this is the recommended way but I go by the volume of sand (*). A builders bucket is typically 15l so a buckets worth of sand / mortar is enough to cover 1.5m^2 at a depth of 10mm. A jumbo bag is something like half a cubic metre so it will cover something like 50m^2 at 10mm depth (corrections please).robgil said:so how do you estimate how much you will need? i understand that i can multiply average depth by area which will give me an idea of how much plaster i need but how do i know , for instance how much plaster i can get from one bag of lime putty and 2 bags of sharp sand?
