Hi,
We have 1750s house up in the north Yorkshire Dales. We've been in just over a year, love it and want to maintain and treasure it without giving it an inappropriate "makeover". There are local builders who seem to work on the houses in the Dale but seem to be all Kingspan, gypsum plaster and uPVC - not what we want or believe is right for the house!
We are very wet behind the ears when it comes to builders and building and are looking for someone who can give us reliable, honest, professional advice on what needs doing when and with what to support us in our desire to do the best for the house. So many have things to sell, we just want to have some good honest advice. We've read about IHBC and HESPR - is this a good place to start? Is it a Building Surveyor we need? Issues will include looking at the roof, a cracked gable end, rain penetration through the walls, dealing with a wall that is bulging out etc. We don't want to throw money away or end up having to redo things because of our ignorance.
Can anyone point these green Period Property owners in the right direction?
Thanks so much and have a happy New Year!
John
