We will never make any decisions about anything, it seems.
We were planning to put cork tiles in the children's playroom (which is in the new addition), and had sort of reached a decision to put down coir carpet in the old house downstairs. Not because we're in love with the idea of coir carpet, but because it would be a reasonably affordable, hardwearing option for at least a few years while we figure things out. (The old house had a concrete floor laid in the 1960s, which is in reasonable condition and does not have any apparent damp problems, the new parts have bare, new concrete.)
I just started pricing cork tiles and discovered that bloody Wickes tiles have gone up by 50% in the past 18 months to $8.99 for .8 sq m (but are still the cheapest I can find). Then idle googling led to reclaimed parquet. This site http://parquet-parquet.co.uk/ currently has some keruing reclaimed parquet 'in need of work', listed at £9.50 per sq m, which just seems very cheap.
The house is 1900ish somewhat posh rural Welsh millowner's house. We don't know what the original floors were, and limecrete, etc, is not an option. To be honest I just want something that is warmer and softer than bare concrete, that doesn't cost thousands upon thousands of pounds. Is it worth looking at parquet or is this just foolish? Is that price too good to be true? Will I ever have floors (no, probably not).
