Yet another cause of condensation

Not satisfied with hermetically sealed houses in which they cook, dry their washing, and press their clothes with steam irons, the great british public are now, it would seem, investing in cleaning gadgets that (if tv adverts are to be believed) pump out unbelievable amounts of steam.
Shouldn't they be sold with a house-health warning?

They're really good, though, if you've got mould on your windowframes, the steam will blast away that mould

We have one, it does a good job of cleaning no condensation troubles for us, but then we never have a closed door!!!

"Clean" is over rated. People evolved with bugs around, the modern obsession with sanitizing everything just makes you sick and allergic to normal real life. I will spare you a link to one of the more effective, and little known treatments for the nasty C. Diff bug.

I agree about cleaning.
I particularly dislike the adverts where a floor is supposedly so clean your children can drop food, pick it up and then eat it.
There appears to be a total lack in personal hygiene and cleanliness where the rules, such as don't eat food off the floor or don't put your fingers in your mouth after sticking them up the dog's bum, have been substituted with sprays that sanitise etc.

I'm not really sure people should be using a strong chemical spray on the dogs bottom, and definately not steam cleaning it :shock:

Very good for baking bread, or so I'm told, though I just stick a bowl of water in the oven, which seems to work.

You appear to have completely missed the point.
The point being if you teach your children not to eat food from off the floor or stick their unwashed fingers in the mouths they will avoid dirt on the floor, dog's bum etc ever upsetting them.

I quite agree. FF junior contracted a nasty bout of Campylobacter at 9 months old. Fortunately he loved the taste of dioralyte so it was easy to keep him hydrated and after a few weeks he was fine. 20 years on and I don't think he's been ill ever since and certainly has no allergies. Coincidence? We'll never know for sure, but I don't think so.

Yes, I believe they call it that, by bizarre co-incidence I suppose Ignoring Lime's warning about the canine posterior might also be effective.

One thing the British aren't very good at. Or perhaps it's just me.
In our previous house, or rather in the garden, I built a brick BBQ. It had a door in the base taken from an old fireplace, to control the draught. Then I decided it would be a good idea to build a pergola above it and train a Virginia creeper over the top. So that was the end of BBQing, but it still looked OK.
So then we had a Weber kettle, one time we tried BBQing some salmon. It was a windy evening, perhaps the wind blew the heat away. Eventually it was pretty much cooked but by then we were starving and it was dark. We retreated to the house where we found an electric appliance designed for the heating of food. Wouldn't have been so bad if we hadn't been entertaining an important client.
So after that, no more BBQ.

BBQ... an unfortunate concatenation of something British - the queue - and Barbie.

We went to a great BBQ a couple of weeks ago, the hosts had hired a specialist BBQ chef, seemed like the way to do it.

The last BBQ I went to was a very pleasant affair.
Lovely garden, pleasant company sitting drinking champagne and the gas bottle for the BBQ was found to be empty.
So the meat was cooked properly indoors and brought outside which is how I prefer BBQs.
even the Barbie cook, who is Australian, was pleased that he could have a sit down and enjoy what was left of the champagne.
The wife, after chastising him for not getting another full gas bottle earlier when they discussed it (initiating mumbled retorts of "I thought there'd be enough", the kids must have used it up" etc.) appeared very pleased to cook instead.
She later confided that she much preferred properly cooked food which BBQs rarely provide.

That, in a nutshell, is the thing about BBQs. There are few things more pleasant than sitting outside on a lovely day eating and drinking with lovely company. If only we could resist taking the cooking outside as well.

Personally, I can't resist a BBQ, and the quality of my summers are measured by how many I manage to squeeze in. This summer has been pretty good so far!
