Yellow room

I am painting the middle room and thought that yellow might be nice, as we have just about every other colour around the house. These photos make it look a bit brighter than it is but it has turned out a bit brighter than I had hoped. Last time I painted a room I hated it till I put stuff in it and then it was fine. I am hoping for the same with this room. Anyone used yellow before? I think it might be harder to get right than the pale greens and greys that are en vogue at the moment.

I reckon that'll look just fine once you've got the furniture back in there.

Yes, have used a similar yellow, but in a child's bedroom. Also looked too bright until the furniture was back in and a few pictures put up on the walls.

Have used a pale yellow in my north facing kitchen. After getting rid of the wall units and installing extra lighting, it is much brighter in there.
Tempted to continue the colour scheme through the hall and stairwell.

That's quite a soft lemony yellow.

I have a sweetcorn yellow lounge. It does look different once furniture is in and pictures are up.

As I've reported in other posts, the First Lady has a dubious plan to acquire control of Farrow and Ball by buying all their products- I'm keeping shtum for a quiet life. In her pursuit of this goal we have several rooms which now have some striking wall colourings - e.g. Raddichio in the dining hall, Pelt in the guest wc - and in our previous place the dining room was finished in Babouche, which is a slightly darker yellow to the one you have there.

Whilst here at Fircroft the overall first impact is softened to a small degree by the oak beams these colours are still 'high impact' on the eyes and when I saw the dining room at our old place I thought my retinas were burning out. That said though once the First Lady had finished with her furnishings witchcraft I was mightily impressed with how well the colours worked. These days I'm a little more circumspect when the colour chart appears and reserve all comment until the room is 'dressed'.

I've never got the hang of 'dressing' a room.

I just put stuff in it and move it around until it sort of fits.

I do have the advantage that I get to choose colour schemes and have no one to answer to. Probably as well as the dining room (when I get to it) will be done in matt black.

With this paint, I tried to match Farrow and Ball's Dayroom Yellow. The closest I could find from Dulux was Butter Cup from their heritage range. It is very slightly darker than Dayroom Yellow but about the same shade I think. Looks cream in the can, yellow on the wall. I've put warmer (or is it cooler? 2700K rather than 6500K) bulbs in and these claim no UV component which makes the room seem less dayglow. My other half was very conservative with colours, white and beige were her favourites, and I usually took the path of least resistance, but we are no longer together, so I can go mad with woodgrained woodwork, gloss green dados and the like, which I may well do in the hallway, but I can't be bothered to paint this room differently now the woodwork is done.

My sitting room is Farrow and Ball's "incarnadine"....except it's not :shock:

B&Q have all the F&B colour charts, but don't actually sell the full range of paint. They electronically "colour match" the chart and sell you one of their paints mixed to that colour.

Not quite cricket methinks - but a lot cheaper :lol:
