Wooden moulding for door

Hello. Does anyone know the name for this shape of moulding before I drive myself crazy wit looking through Internet sites for mouldings!

Picture for scale. It is semicircular with square section bits protruding from it.

I think you'll have to search by description rather than name. It is a panel moulding, half-round with quirks. It's sort-of a part- Astragal. You are probably best off cutting out a template from a Cornflakes packet and taking it to a local joiners workshop (allow for the enormous build-up of paint). It would have been run off by the jobbing carpenter who made the door using a home-made moulding plane, so there is no reason to think you could buy a matching piece off the shelf.

Do as Mike says and get a local joiner to make you some or failing that you could probably get or make some rectangular flat section and buy some semi circle section, glue them together and jobs a good un

Thanks noj. Like that but smaller. I might have to find a local joiner. Is this possibly justification to buy a router or is the size too small and fiddly for that?

It looks like Astragal to me but that has a sloping shoulder rather than a square profile. If I remember rightly B&Q stock it in pine and maybe in a hardwood.

As a pretty inexperienced router user it's not something I'd try - the first step and curve bit is easy, but doing the same thing on the other side so that you end up with the half-round would be challenging...

Good idea - if you don't need much. Have a look in your local DIY shed, Wickes in particular have a reasonable selection of small mouldings. Be a lot cheaper than getting some made.

The only way to make this with a router is to use a router table. By the time you've bought a half-inch router (the profile is too large for a 1/4" router), router table, and a suitable cutter, (plus the extraction equipment without which a router table won't work), you could have had a local joiners shop make this up in a semi-previous metal.

As Mike says, easily made by a joinery or indeed a timberyard with a spindle moulder.
