Wood Window Supplier (Essex)

Hi All,

As part of our renovations, we've agreed to replace our "illegal" PVC windows (fitted by a previous occupant) with wood more sympathetic to the conservation area rules.

We came across these guys(http://www.byngjoinery.co.uk/) at the homebuilding and renovating show last year and using the pricing calculator on their web site we seem to be coming in around the £15k mark. I've tried a few random high-street and web companies for similar quotes and everyone else has been coming in closer to the £40k mark!!! :shock: Maybe I was naieve, but this is quite a lot more than I was expecting for 28 windows. Appreciate this is a little bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question - but is there a rough rule of thumb of how much wood casement windows should cost? Any recommendations for suppliers we should be speaking to would be much appreciated.

A lot depends on the window size, specification and fittings of course but £535 (average for 28 windows @ £15k) for a 3-way window of around 1m x 1.8, with two opening casements, 3x2 SG panes per casement including all fittings doesn't sound too bad to me for custom windows.

£40k sounds like a lot though.

I had a look at that company. Their s\sh windows are very cheap. i'm sure that around £1000 per sash is normal, so if the quality looks good, then it seems a good price. Also that firm is not far from me so thanks for sharing.

We had 15 windows made for roughly £6500, all hard wood and painted and fitted. Four are non opening in the living room and they are mullioned. The others are all flush casement.

Not quite Essex, but not far north of the county, I had several windows made by these people a few years ago. I found the quality and price very good.

I had four timber casement windows made for a total cost of roughly £3500, so that's sort of £750 per window for the ones which were roughly 1000mm wide x 800mm high, and £1000 per window for the ones which were roughly 1800mm wide x 800mm high. That's for the timber (Douglas Fir) and the joinery, not including the glass or fitting. It was a local joiner who made them.
