I am trying to paint wood stained skirting boards but although I have given them three coats of underciat the wood stain is still bleeding through. Any suggestions for a product that will stop this happening. Thanks
Shellac.
Or perhaps a yacht varnish.
If the underlying stain is still so 'live' and oily, there may be adhesion problems even if you are using oil paint, so perhaps start with a good rub down with white spirit.
Annoying and a pain in the backside......I have the same issue but on a slightly larger scale, in my naivety I thought no knots meant no bleed through so undercoated 6 new pine doors and now have bad yellow staining bleed through on some of them that I got as far as painting with top coat. Check out Zinsser products there is one, B-I-N Stain Killer Primer Sealer which is shellac based and also acts like undercoat which should do the job according to their blurb and reviews. I have not painted my doors again yet due to procrastination so cant comment on whether this sorts it 100% but I am hoping so!
