we've been looking at our windows.
most of them at least open. (some dont close) one is really bad.
i would have called them all sash, but i see that they are all different.
some dont have any "gubbins". some do, but are broken. is it still a sash if it doesent have weights or pulleys?
its amazing how the design varies from window to window. some have wood to seperate the two moving windows. some just slide against each other, and theyre all of different weight of frame. the front window is quite chunky. can signs like this help date them, ot does it just depend on who put them in?
we also found out what the bars on the windows are for. we met the local retired postman and he told us.
the owner of the house was a jelous man, and thought the wife was entertaining the neighbour. so he put bars on the windows and barred the back door so that when he caught them there would be no escape.
