At the moment, I'm looking at different options for windows. Given how expensive any window choice is these days, I'm wondering... what would people do differently if they had their time again?
I would have gone for sashes rather than casements at the rear. Our house was an oddity, originally had casements at the front where it was rubble walled and sashes at the much posher Bath stone ashlar rear elevation.
In the 1980s the whole lot had been replaced with single glazed PVC casements, so when we re-did them we had them all as iroko casements to keep it consistent, which resulted in much less glass and therefore less light in the main living area at the rear
