So the joiner finally turner up with the new windows!
Sliding sash, timber, double glazed (heritage glazing).
Took them all day (9.30 to 3.00) to put one small window in - there are 6 more !
Luckily the boxes are still there, and the weights (though they need to add more weight for the double glazing). Some repair to the outer frame needed (new sill and repair to the style) and new brass pulleys, but it's looking good. Properly maintained should last another 100 years......
