Window vac.

Our windows run with condensation.
A friend mentioned that Karcher have a narrow blade available for leads, alas at 5.75" it's still too wide. Nilfisk have a model the same width.
Our leads are just over 5".

Does anyone know of a window vac with a really narrow blade?

My new (Christmas present) car vacuum cleaner has a liquid suction attachment about two inches wide. It's a Bush SLX225G with rechargeable batteries. Mind you, I don't know if it will hold water while being held at that angle as it's designed to be held up the other way - there might be other similar appliances that would work.

I bought a Karcher. It arrived today, haven't had a chance to look yet, but I suspect that because the nozzle/blade interface is hollow it would be tricky to reduce the width without impairing the suction.

Mmmm. Or Densotape. I used some of that to secure the rattling inner and outer front wing on the Shadow.

I used the gadget today. On our ugly moderne 1960s Magnet windows in the bathroom it works fine with its 11" blade, and rapidly sucked half a cup of water from seven panes. A gadget that actually does what it promises. Zounds!
I may as well try narrowing the smaller blade, as I have no other need of it.

I don't think I would survive without my Karcher window vac. The condensation on our windows was soul destroying but now I can clear the whole lot in 5-10 minutes and no mess. Brilliant piece of kit.

I did look this morning to see whether trimming down was an option. Given that the vac is relatively cheap I would say it's worth the risk in having a go. I opted for the smaller 170mm blade when I bought it so that might be easier than the large one.

I thought you wos 'avin me on, but you're not wrong.
The condensation that used to run onto the paintwork and ruin it, and hang about all day fogging the windows, can now be sucked away in 10 mins. Only a quarter pint or so, but that's a quarter pint gone from our general humidity.
It works fine in an upright position, and on its side. Doesn't drip. Does the job for two days on one charge.

For the leads and fanlights, I shortened the short blade. I stuck a piece of plastic over the shortened end, but it fell off, so I made a 'temporary' end with gaffer tape which will no doubt still be there when the appliance conks out in 20 years.

I'd wondered if these things were any good or not, it seems the consensus is they are.

CPC have a Nilfisk one that's quite cheap - between £19 and £24 depending on what extras you want with it, free delivery as well. Not sure on the window vacs but I've had a Nilfisk pressure washer for quite a while now that seems very robust.

Well, how could you resist buying a smart window vac?!

So much nicer than a scruffy one.

I do get rather irritated with meaningless claims such as "long battery life". What does that mean? Is 10 minutes long? Or an hour? Or does it last long enough for three days' work?

Mind you, irritating me is not a difficult job (as you may have gathered)!

I bought some stainless steel screws last week, well not plain stainless steel you understand, 'Turbo Ultra' stainless steel if you please. Nothing but the best for me.

And 'lifetime guarantee' always makes me smile, which I interpret as the guarantee ends when it breaks because that's the end of its lifetime. :roll:
