Window locks for cast iron windows

We have just moved into a grade ii listed house which has a number of cast iron windows, with hook fasteners, on the ground floor. The insurer is insisting that window locks be fitted to these windows as a condition of providing cover. Standard window locks will not work as obviously we don't want to drill into the cast iron; has anyone come across or does anyone know of a solution?

We had crittall metal windows in a previous house and had the same requirement for insurance compliance.

We used things like these:

ERA 825 Transom Window Lock
ERA 829 Metlock

They are completely removable and don't require any drilling or fixings, so shouldn't be a problem in a listed property.

I've no idea if they would be acceptable to the insurance co. as we never had to make a claim.

hmmm, not sure the metlock will work as the handle goes into the wooden frame rather than sitting on the inside.

Probably not in that case. Perhaps the transom lock alone would be adequate?

I'm not a great fan of window locks. They make it more fiddly to open windows and do nothing to stop a determined burglar breaking the window itself, i.e. maximum personal inconvenience for minimal extra protection. But, of course, it's all to do with meeting insurance requirements.

We had the same problem and then insured with the NFU who did not require them in our case.

That's right, change the insurer not the locks. Traditional fasterners can make a house just as burglar proof as modern locks, and can result in more damage when the burglar comes.

I have a theory that the main losers if all households agreed to leave their houses unlocked would be the insurance companies.
