Window iron-mongery

So, I need ironmongery for 52 windows. Photo below shows extant window with furniture.

Ideally, I'd like to replicate the existing iron work. It occurred that it might not be prohibitively expensive to make a copy of the existing iron work and run some off.

Any one have experience of this, perhaps? Alternatively, a good source of similar iron work?

..they were able to make up replicas, but we went for resoration of the originals in the end.
Very helpful chatting to them by phone/email. Not had the finished article back yet however, so again, can't comment on the quality of their workmanship *yet*..

We only have 6 remaining timber windows.... The rest are UPVC with bright chrome modern handles. :evil:

I'll email them to find out costs on replicas... Off the shelf cast iron casement fasteners are about a tenner each. So that's 500 quid for fasteners alone....

It is expensive to have a pattern made, but if you need 50 odd of the same thing I imagine the unit price could become acceptable. There are many foundries in the black country (Dudley, West Brom, Wolverhampton) type area. I don't know of one that would be happy to do your job specifically, but I bet there will be a few that will be happy to make a pattern from your originals. The company I work for have had quite a few prototype parts made in cast iron, so I can give you a name of a place we use if you like. However the castings are very large so it may not be appropriate.

Your fastener and stay don't actually look like a pair, although they might have been sold as such. I have an odd fastener somewhere looks pretty much like that.
One doesn't actually have to have them all matching of course, for instance there seem to be a few the same here

and one could assemble packets of a few so that they match in each room for example, but not across the whole house.

Fttb you could just wire the windows shut with a couple of screws and a twist of brass wire while you look for suitable fasteners.

Salvage yards, eBay... be quite fun to have a variety, but not really the idea if you want to put the house back to original of course. Also, cleaning and painting 50 sets of old iron fasteners not much fun.

Thanks for the referral. The fastener is pear drop and the stay is pig tail. They are at least consistent in the extant windows. Enough to want to keep this for the new windows.

Try www.kirkpatrick.co.uk. They have a pretty extensive range so even if you can't find an exact copy you'll find something pretty close. They're reasonably priced too.

Refurbishment of old locks is always to be preferred.
(They look good)
Perhaps if the modern replacements were built as well as the old I might feel differently but IME the new, even if it attempts to replicate the old, is usually inferior in many ways.
